The story, The Crucible , follows the lives of a town effected by the scare of witch trials and how greatly it effected a community of people. The entire plot line is created because of false accusations by members of the town because of selfishness or greed. The people in the town manipulate each other and lie in order to get what they want. Even though there is no proof of witchcraft, innocent people are accused every day leading to an extreme number of hangings and a community living in fear. But, he cannot stop now because he has already hanged an excessive amount of people so he would look bad if he discontinued the hangings, because it would show people that he was wrong this whole time. A fourth deadly sin shown throughout the play is wrath, which is anger. Anger is expressed in many different scenes throughout this play and in many different forms. Abigail Williams shows anger toward John Proctor when he refuses to have an affair with her anymore, because she still had strong feelings towards him. As mentioned before, she does so much as to try and get Elizabeth killed because she is angry at John and wants him all to herself. Elizabeth gets so angry at Abigail because Abby is trying to get her killed so she tries to get John to blame Abby of fraud. Mrs. Putnam shows anger throughout the story because most of her children died which she was very upset about. Also, Mary Warren expresses anger when the girls are mocking her every word, which begins to frustrate her to the point where she is in hysterics because she is is effected by what Abigail and her friends were doing.
