The Old Testament is that collection of sacred writings that, virtually since the time of their composition, have been considered by the Jews to be Scripture (Merrill Pg.15). These books were written over centuries and were written by different authors with different backgrounds. Even though these books were written over centuries, they are all breathed by God (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV). The Old Testament is a very diverse collection of book, and is made up of 7 main eras. The first era is the creation. The first eleven chapters of Genesis deals with creation. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1, NIV).
