In the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey discusses seven habits that can dramatically improve the life of a teenager. These seven habits include be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and finally sharpen the saw. These habits teach teens how to deal with some of the hardest problems a young adult can encounter. The first habit of highly effective teens shows teens how to be efficient and get things done. This habit is called “be proactive”. If there’s one thing teenagers have a problem with it’s being productive. According to the author, life can be so much easier if you take control. He talks about the negativities that come with being reactive. If you are reacting to everything, you aren’t taking charge of your life, instead, your losing control. After reading most of the book, teens are probably thinking they have a lot to manage and need some mental rest. The author states “You need a time out to rejuvenate the best thing you’ve got going for yourself -- you! The author says this because he knows the mental overload teens can endure and makes it a point that resting your mind is a good thing. We take care of our bodies in many ways but sometimes taking a timeout is what’s missing. The author also says that all aspects of your life must function equally in order to be stable. This statement sheds light on the fact that mental health is important and can dramatically affect your whole life.
