The moon sets comfortably high in the night sky, illuminating the woods below. The sound of dogs barking incessantly as they creep closer to the petite girl who hides behind a tree trying to catch her breath. “We have to find her,” demands a man waving his flashlight onward, “we cannot lose her, get a move on!” The men all reply obediently, holding their guns with attached flashlights and the dogs standing like soldiers at their sides. One single signal sets everything off, the dogs pounce like they’ve already catched their prey. The barking becomes more violent and unwelcoming, screaming demands exchanges between men. She looks down pressing her hand against her heart, she can feel it. I’m alive. It’s still beating, that’s all that matters. Her fingers press against her skin as if she wanted to breakthrough and rip her beating heart right out of her chest. She pushes herself from the trees and begins to sprint the opposite way of the screaming men. Crackle! Crackle! Crackle! Her feet hits the ground drawing attention to herself. Lost for what to do, she turns her head side-to-side and glances back once noticing that the men are getting closer. She pushes herself towards the trucks, wiggling the handles to a truck in hopes one will be unlocked and she can hide, just hide away. She approaches a truck that is white and blue with lights going around all of the top and on the sides. The door opens. Yes! Yes! It’s open. She swings open the truck's door stares at the back rooms door where the drivers sleep. She squeezes her eyes shut as she wiggles the handle and opens it, no one was in there. She hid herself in the dark, hoping this driver had enough sleep to take her away, far away from this unfamiliar
