Throughout history many wars have been fought and many authors have written about how they have mentally affected soldiers. “A Boy in France” is a short story by the famous J.D. Salinger. This story brings the thoughts and feelings of a soldier into life with creative uses of setting and diction. Salinger uses setting and imagery to create a vivid story to bring to life how soldiers really felt in a war and how often their feelings were quickly dismissed. Salinger’s use of descriptive setting brings to life how being in a foreign country during war can feel so unwelcoming and bring constant thoughts of a better life, distracting people from their real life situations in the war.
