A Brief Look At Alex Gonzalez

In every field, there is a person or group that rises above the rest, who becomes a trend setter, a superstar, someone for others to follow. In the genre of Latin rock Mana fulfilled this role, with more than 35 million albums sold worldwide. They are considered the most successful Latin rock band to reach America (“Mana” Part 4). Alex Gonzalez, a drummer and writer from the band that was mainly popular in the 90’s, uses lots of mediums and styles in his drumming. His music represents Latin culture, spiritual power, and emphasizes social issues in the world. Gonzalez was inspired by other drummers in the world, like Led Zeppelin. As a result of watching big bands on TV perform while growing up, this takes a big role in his combination of aggressive drumming, while incorporating Latin beats and rhythms. The distinctiveness and creativity of Gonzalez’s work demonstrates new perspectives on his drumming style. In addition, Gonzalez exported Mexico’s Latin rock to the United States, increasing its popularity there, and therefore had an impact on American life. While encouraging other bands to begin performing in the United States because of his bands (Maná) success. Gonzalez continues to demonstrate to me how much more sophisticated drumming is as an art form. I now have a stronger connection to Gonzalez as a result of my further research, and I will continue to share his inspiring journey of perseverance, accomplishment, and adversity. Although I don’t know the most about drumming, I am intrigued by his drumming style in the Latin rock genre. I relate to Gonzalez because I feel like we share similar beliefs and share the desire to express ourselves through our art. We must commemorate Gonzalez for being able to encourage people to get involved in their communities and to collaborate together to solve common issues through his music.
