A Brief Note On Group Collaboration

After beginning our work on the deliberative dialogue assignment, a few qualities of our group really stood out to me. One was how quickly we went through the stages of group development. Since the group had such great chemistry, we were able to quickly become comfortable with one another. Each member was able to freely express their thoughts and provide their input, no matter what role they were in. Every individual was able to find a role that suited them in his group. The way in which we were led allowed us to express our opinions. Communication happened throughout this project in a very positive manner. I support our solution, and feel as though each member has contributed to this assignment.

Each member helped out with at least one task during this group project. Colleen Kleveno naturally fell into the position of recorder. McKenzie Dunford became our group leader after she stepped up and asked people to cover certain topics for our presentation. Alan Thomas and Torie Schaberg were both encouragers, mostly because they missed the majority of classed in which we worked on this assignment. Jacob Sininger and Chris Dolsen were our main researchers. They often would tell our groups facts and stories, which helped us come up with ideas. Simran Singh and I often were commentating on thoughts and challenging everyone’s ideas, including one another’s. None of our groups were assigned, but each member naturally came into one position or another. She wasn’t specifically chosen to lead our group, but she did the majority of the organizing and assigning roles for our members. The best way to describe her leadership style is democratic. McKenzie tried to ensure that all group members were heard and that everyone agreed on what we presented and put into our letter. For instance, before we put a specific point argument in our presentation, she would ask for consensus from the group. Another way she led the group was in setting deadlines.
