The book I chose to read was a nonfiction book titled Cut by Patricia McCormick, published by Scholastic in October 2000. Patricia McCormick tells about a young 15 year old girl named Callie. Callie dealt with personal problems that included her brother’s deadly asthma, her parents, who were growing farther apart each day, and then to top it all off she cut herself. She knew not to cut too deep and not cut more than one or two lines per arm, what she was dealing with was “reasons” for cutting. She had no idea why she cut herself until she was sent to a mental health hospital by the name of Sea Pines. There, Callie met a group of girls who also struggled with their own harsh problems. Callie continued to not speak to anyone, not even her own counselor. The honest truth was that Callie blamed herself for everything from her brother’s asthmatic condition, to her parent’s issues with each other. Callie then started to sneak in sharp items and began cutting herself again, only this time, she was disgusted with herself. After a few days, a new girl came, her name was Amanda. Amanda was there for the same reason Callie was. However, unlike Callie, Amanda would often show off her scars. Because Amanda showed her scars, Callie then seen what she had done to herself. Callie then began to speak and tells her friends from the place and the counselor her reasons for cutting herself. She made new friends and started having normal conversations. However, it all became too much for her so she ran away. She eventually returned and then realized that she really did want to help herself near the end of the book and decided to try and get it and she
