Career Exploration Fields: Organic chemistry is the study of carbon-based molecules. These chemists are called organic chemists and work with substances found in living things, such as plant and animal material. Modern organic chemists, however, have expanded the field to also encompass non-organic compounds. Not only do they transform organic compounds into new compounds not found in nature, they also synthesize non-organic compounds into synthetic organic compounds by separating molecules and synthesizing the atoms in different ways. Therefore, modern organic chemists are scientists who create and study carbon-based molecules. Inorganic chemistry, on the other hand, is the study of non-organic compounds, which includes metals, minerals, …show more content…
Biochemists study how the structure of the molecule affects the function. They provide society with more of an understanding on life, health, and disease. Hospitals, cosmetic companies, and drug companies are some places a biochemist may work in. Physical chemistry is the study of the behavior of matter on a molecular and atomic level and chemical reactions. Physical chemists also analyze material, which they then use to develop theories about the properties to apply potential uses for that material. Furthermore, they also study chemical reactions through mathematical models and algorithms. A potential career for physical chemists would be in material science because material science is the study of the properties and uses of materials. Analytical chemistry is the study of the composition and amount of matter through analysis. Analytical chemists process information about the structure of matter to solve problems by applying their knowledge of chemistry, statistics, etc. They also identify substances and predict how it would behave in different conditions, set error limits, sample, define, isolate, and preserve samples; etc. They work in a lab setting and use advance technology and instruments to analyze the chemical nature of …show more content…
On the other hand, to become a patent agent, not only is a technical degree required, but one must either work for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for three years as a patent examiner or pass the USPTO registration examination. In addition, to become a patent attorney, one must also go to law school. Sales and Marketing Chemical Sales & Marketing In chemical sales, employees use their scientific knowledge to help their customers solve problems, choose equipment, etc. They also act as liaisons between customers and engineers or other technical staff. Furthermore, they also analyze and predict market trends to guide company research. Additionally, they also market the product to customers. Most have degrees in chemistry and had taken courses in business and sales. Taking language courses are not required, but they are extremely useful in the global setting.
