In the movie The Graduate, Ben’s most prominent personality trait is anxiousness as shown by close up shots, low angle shots, and zoom out shots. Close up shots are used in a very effective way throughout The Graduate. As the movie starts, Ben is on a plane, flying back home for his college graduation party. The director, Mike Nichols begins the movie with an opening close up shot of Ben. This immediately catches the attention of the viewer as Ben is staring off, blankly against a white wall.

In Elie Wiesel’s Night, the protagonist’s quick thinking definitely helps him the most during his ordeal. Elie’s ability to think fast during both selections helps him stay alive. Elie rapidly tells Dr. Mengele that he’s a farmer instead of saying that he is a student. Otherwise, if he tells the doctor that he really is a student, the Nazis will kill him and separate him him from his father.

In great literature there are often characters who are deceitful to others to carry out a greater purpose. By doing so the character often compromises relationships with friends and family but it can also compromise the safety of the character and others around them. In the play Hamlet Shakespeare uses Hamlet’s character to elaborate on this situation, Claudius is deceiving his family and friends for a greater purpose which at times seems to do more bad than good. Claudius deceives many people in the tragedy Hamlet.
