Character Analysis ISP Introduction Gabriela (Gabby) Dawson is a strong, independent woman from the TV series Chicago Fire. She is in her thirties and is just about to move out of her apartment in Chicago that she lived in with her former husband, Matthew (Matt) Casey, to move to Puerto Rico and aid the injured from the recent hurricane. Growing up, she was raised in a supportive home with both of her parents, Ramon and Camila Dawson, as well as her brother, Antonio Dawson. Patient History Gabby and Antonio always had a great relationship growing up, and they always have each other's backs. Though, anger is a secondary emotion, which means that there may be many emotions that come before this anger. Gabby is often sad and feels lonely, even though she pushes people away instead of facing her problems. This way she avoids being hurt by them as she was when her parents divorced. Gabby is also very impulsive. She often doesn't think of the outcome her actions or short temper might bring, which often gets her in messy situations, either putting herself in harm's way or even having people mad at her. These situations often make Gabby run away from any conflict that may be going on and not want to be involved or pick sides in an argument. These maladaptive strategies help keep Gabby safe from emotional danger. Gabby has anxiety and excessively worries a lot, and her anxiety only got worse once she started fostering Louie because she was now carrying motherly anxiety as well. She was hesitant to stay as a firefighter on the same truck as Casey, She was worried about what would happen to Louie if they were in an accident at a fire together and both were injured. This is a result of the trauma of Leslie Shay’s passing. Gabby has a lot of anger and guilt because if she didn't offer to switch their positions, Leslie would not have died and Gabby would have. Gabby tends to blame herself for Leslie's death, and the thought of her beloved friends' death, got so bad to the point she had to go to therapy for it, but there are no clear answers whether the therapy helped or not. She has anger issues that result in a short temper that is caused by trauma from her co-worker and friend leaving her suicide note. She has a lot of inner anger and guilt that she couldn't help Rebecca through the rough time that she was in, and that she felt the only way out was by killing herself. Possibly more therapy or medication would help her through dealing with her losses. Gabby shows general anxiety and could benefit from participation in some relaxation activities or therapy to help her learn some relaxation skills. She will need to practice these skills consistently to help decrease her excessive worries and
