Character Analysis of Louie Zamperini Louie's hope displaced, his fear and inspired himself to work toward his survival, and each success renewed their physical and emotion. Stranded in an ocean, tortured by Japanese. Louie’s life slowly turned around after the return from war. He has changed from a famous athlete to a alcoholic. Soon he finds peace again away from nightmares and flashbacks from the war and becomes a honorable man. In the book Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand uses the life experiences of Louie Zamperini to show the traits of Forgiving and Determined.
Throughout the book it has shown that Louie is a Forgiving person. One example is when Louie is has no food and continues at sea stranded with Mac who ate all the food. The author

One example is when Louie Zamperini, chose to become better than himself that he would go from bad habits to good habits. The book states, “Louie was untamable. In Torrance a rebel was born. If it was edible, Louie Stole it. In the Summer of 1932, Louie did almost nothing but run”(7-16). This explains that Louie was a brat during his middle age. Even though he was chastised with bad habits doesn’t mean he can’t have good ones now. Louie soon became prowess as good runner, good enough to get him in the Olympics. In addition Louie is also determined when he was that hungry, in his mind he had to no choice. He had to do it for him and his partners. The author mentions, “As the shark swam to Phil, Louie Plunged his hands in the water and grabbed its tail.The shark took off, yanking Louie into the ocean and fling him off. Louie bolted back onto the raft”(126). This shows that Louie is a determined person because Louie continues to fish but the shark interferes with the bait. Why not grab the shark, he thought nervously. He grab it no matter what happened. Food fell from the sky as he beat the shark to death. Thus Louie is a determined person when he knew their was no chance to survive without food Louie was
