Age doesn’t define maturity. Older people are always believed to be more mature; however, this is only because they have had more life experiences. They have faced many situations in life, but there exist young people who have been through their fair share of hardships which turned their innocent skin into strong armor. In the book,”The Glass Castle,” a young girl named Jeanette Walls is brought into this world by a selfish mother and a low-life father.
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, maturity means having reached the most advanced stage in a process. In Night, a memoir by Elie Wiese, Eliezer is taken to a concentration camp at an early age for the majority of his youth. In this camp, he was forced to mature fast and faced many hardships that shaped and molded his identity to make him the person he grew up to be. By the end of the book, you can't even recognize him as the little boy from Romania. In Night, Wiesel demonstrates how the challenges he went through matured him into the man he became.

In the short story “Growing Up,” Maria’s family went on a vacation while she stayed at home, but when she heard there was a car crash that happened near where her family was staying, she gets worried and thinks it is all her fault for trying to act mature and angering her father. At what age should society really consider a kid (or youth) as an adult? I think that it is not a matter of how old the person is, but how responsible and mature they are.
