Eidetic Memory Technique Vs Rote Memory Technique Léonard Twizeyimana 15th March 2017 Abstract This is a report of the experiment I did about two memory techniques, rote memory technique, and rote memory technique. My aim to conduct an experiment was to know the memory technique that helps recall of information in a long period of time. I conducted this experiment because I wanted to find an answer to the problems of many students who claim to be not aware of the technique that can help them remember what they learn in a long span. To do the experiment, I chose four people whom I divided into two groups as sample population a total number of 400 that I work with. The two groups learned ten pairs of words, one group by rote memorization and …show more content…
Those four people are my sample population from a group of 350 people whom I work with. Those four people were divided into two groups. Group one consisted of one boy and one girl. This group used rote memorization to memorize ten pairs of words. I gave them five minutes to memorize those pair of words. After five a minutes, they had one minute of relaxing before taking the first recall test. After the first recall test, Group one passed the recall test again after 24 hours so that I could compare the words retrieved after one minute and those retrieved after 24 hours. Note: I delivered the twice in a time range of 24 hours to be able to calculate the forgetting rate in words per time unit of people who use rote memorization technique to learn new information. Group two: this group consisted of one boy and one girl. Each of them used eidetic memorization technique to memorize 10 pairs of words. It took everyone 5 minutes to memorize those pair of words. After memorizing those pair of words, they took a rest of one minute before passing the first recall test. When one minute of rest passed, I delivered the first recall test by using eidetic memorization technique. I waited for 24 hours to deliver the test to Group two …show more content…
Group two could retrieve 9 correct words in a recall test one minute after learning 10 words. This number has dropped to 8.5 words 24 hours later. Graphically, those data can be plotted on the following charts. Ratio of Correct Words of Group One to Group Two for Each Time Delay Ratio Correct number of words after one minute The ratio of correct words of Group one to Group two after one minute is 9.5/ 9 = 9.5:9 Correct number of words after _24___ hours The ratio of correct words of Group one to Group two after 24 hours is 7:9.5 which is equal to 7/8.75 According to this table, the ratio of correct words of group one to group two after one minute is 9.5:9. 24 hours later, the ratio has turned to 7:8.75. In the experiment, I also calculated the forgetting rate for both rote memorization technique and eidetic memorization technique. I found that the forgetting rate for rote memorization and eidetic memorization is 0.10 and 0.01 words/hour
