The movie “Lonesome Dove” and the real lives of Oliver Loving and Charles Goodnight are very similar. In the movie Gus is Oliver Loving and Woodrow is Charles Goodnight. Charles Goodnight was a ranger in real life just like Woodrow was in the movie. The cattle drive in the movie they crossed Indian territories. When they were blazing the trail they crossed Indian territories in real life.
Thoreau’s essay, “Solitude”, states his true beliefs about companionship and solitude. He argues “we are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers” (108). His idea is that those types of companions are all superficial and without a true meaning. Although he does have friends and neighbors, he alleges they must live in another country with how rarely he sees them. According to Thoreau, natures provides a better companionship than the human population does.
Love is a mystery for many people, everyone has their views on what love should be and it is way more than just a definition in a dictionary. Love takes patience and time and not just forcing to find it. In the story, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurstone, the main character Janie Crawford is raised by her grandmother who forces her to marry an older wealthy man. Janie 's realizes that isn’t what true love is and runs off with another man called Jodie. After many years she realizes that marriage didn’t work out either, after Jodies dies she meets a man called TeaCake who she falls for and runs away with.
Love in the story is like the energy in a kid, it drives the story and the characters in the story insane. For example, in the story love is what drove Hero into dying and will end killing Tara at the end, “Why should you go on living when she and I are dead? When no one remembers our names?”
There are many things that factor into reasons for loving someone. Often times when people think of reasons for loving someone, they only think about the immediate motives. People do not consider reasons outside the obvious. However, there are many hidden motives that cause people t love one another. Flannery O’Connor’s “Good Country People” and William Shakespeare’s “My Mistress’ Eyes Are Nothing Like the Sun”, show that love can be influenced by an ulterior motive, through the use of specific word choice and storyline twists.
Frank Ocean once said, “When you 're happy, you enjoy the music. But when you 're sad, you understand the lyrics.” Why does one have to be sad to “understand the lyrics”? Evaluating a song and being given the ability to relate enhances one’s respect for the composer. For example, when one first listens to “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins, they probably believe the song is about love, however, once a person analyzes the lyrics the realize that the song is actually a story of a couple who are having a baby boy.
In the 1977 novel, Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Morrison highlights the running theme of love. The theme of love is present in every relationship in the novel and is defined different from character to character. The women display love as a way of obsession whether it is over their spouses or over materialistic possessions. The men, however; define it differently, many are distant and secluded when it comes to expressing affection and love.
In a society where songs with meaningless lyrics and repeated phrases gathers the most publicity, it is surprising to find songs that exhibit meaningful lyrics and thoughts. Unlike most hip-hop songs that contain useless repeated lyrics, Kanye West’s 2008 hit “Heartless” contains lyrics full of meaning. After producing this song, he was starting to approach the zenith of his career. This song became an instant hit for not only its soothing beats or sounds, but for its impactful lyrics that take the listener multiple attempts to really understand. This song tells the story of a tragic breakup between two individuals that cannot seem to get along.
This song is about a man who is telling their lover that only love will free them of their cold heart. This begins with the man asking how it felt to be alone. “When you were young and on your own, how did it feel to be alone?” Young started this song with those lyrics because he wanted the song to have a stronger message. Isolation makes a person’s heart go cold and only love can break that ice.
Throughout the following essay, Cynthia Zarin’s poem “sSong” will be critically analysed and assessed. Cynthia Zarin is an American poet born in 1959. She published a poem named “Song” in 1993 to show her compassion to her lover. The poem consists of 3 stanzas whereby each stanza is contains 3 lines. The poem is written about a woman’s love relationship towards with a man.
As one first example, the song "Scary" by Britney Spears was wrote and released in 2011. The first stanza already bring references from "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", as the singer compares her hide - and maybe wrong - wishes and desires to the story; she wants to do things she can't, just like Jekyll wanted before creating Hyde. The song “Every Rose has its Thorn” by Poison talks about a failed relationship between a failed relationship between a man and a woman, and while the man was trying to figure out what he did wrong, he finds out that “[he] never meant that much to [her]” (Poison), which completely destroys him. According to Poisons lead singer, Bret Michaels, this song was actually written in response to a failed love affair with his girlfriend, Tracy Lewis. Lewis allegedly was cheating on him when he was on tour and the next day he wrote this song. The mid-1980s rock band, Poison, uses literary tools, such as natural imagery, metaphor, simile, and juxtaposition in their song, “Every Rose has its Thorn,” to show that in love, there is always going to be conflict, because naturally beautiful moments contain flaws.

Growing up in a society obsessed with the concept of sappy love stories, it is easy to find flaws with the unrealisticness of such accounts of love. Songwriter Taylor Swift contributes to the popular trend of mainstream love stories in her own composition, “Love Story.” Throughout her song, Swift effectively incorporates the use of various figurative devices to relate her own love story with that of the famous Shakespearean lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Swift conveys the strength of her forbidden love, in similarity with that of Romeo and Juliet’s, through the use of metaphors, hyperboles, and allusions. First and foremost, Swift uses clear examples of metaphors throughout her song to maintain the resemblance of Romeo and Juliet’s love story with her own love story.
It all depends on who the artist is and if they are inspired to write or not. A song is like a three minute story. There’s a beginning, a middle, and of course an end. The main purpose of a song is to tell that story, whether it is about love, heartbreak, bad times, good times, it is a story that is being told.
