Oftentimes ancient myths are subject to editing and change. These types of revisions are inevitable due to the fact of the age of these myths. As things get passed down and along, people have the liberty of manipulating stories for their own purposes. A popular myth not subject to such behaviour is Homer’s Hymn to Demeter. This story focuses on the kidnapping of Demeter’s daughter Persephone by the God of the Underworld, Hades. Hades wanted Persephone as his wife, ruling alongside him in the Underworld, however because he was aware that Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, would never agree to having her daughter locked away in the Underworld, Hades resorted to kidnapping her.
