The purpose of this assignment was to write a critique paper of the video “Second Opinion with T. R. Reid: Inside Ayurvedic Medicine”. Before I watch a movie or a documentary about a polemic or multidimensional topic, I like to do a self-assessment of my beliefs and attitudes towards it. I have found that this practice helps to understand my posture before being influenced by the information presented. In this specific case, my knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine, its origins, history, and advances through the years was very limited. Other than reading a few articles for academic purposes I haven’t dedicated enough time to read or even apply this type of traditional medicine. I decided to watch the video with an open mind and with the little information I knew, research more about Ayurvedic medicine afterward and form an opinion about it. The video follows Frontline/ World correspondent T.R. Reid while he explores Ayurveda, a form of medicine practiced in India for over 3000 years. T.R. Reid has been suffering from chronic pain in his right shoulder since he had an accident in the navy more than 25 years ago. R. Reid: Inside Ayurvedic Medicine” was enlightening in the sense that it opened my mind to other forms of medicine that are safer, less invasive and also effective. Many could argue that Ayurveda is ancient science stalled in time, but I believe otherwise. It has been practiced for over 3000 years, which can only prove how profound, holistic and progressive it is. I'm not stating that Ayurveda or any other form of complementary and alternative medicine is the solution to all medical problems, but western medicine is definitely missing a more integrative, spiritual and natural approach to patient and diseases if we can’t find a way in which both traditional and modern medicine can
