Do you believe parents should place more importance on the value of being nice or is it better for parents to spend time teaching children how to be selfish and only look out for their own best interests?

Parents need to teach selfishness to their children for the children’s own good.

Is it really true that children need to learn to be kind? In reality, the most successful people are selfish and every parent wants their child to succeed. This struggle is seen in the article,”A Daughter Too Kind For Her Own Good” where the nice girl is being pushed around and doesn’t get what she wants because of her timidity plus the fact that she lets others go first. She is only in third grade, yet she is being stomped on like a doormat. In the article, the author writes, “Now, maybe she will take that slice of cheese pizza instead of the pepperoni she wants, if cheese is what is left after everyone else has their choice.” This girl is being nice to others, and as a result, cannot stand up for herself in situations where she needs to, so she won’t get what she wants, that pepperoni pizza because of her kindness.
