For my Molly Bang style image, I depicted the last scene from the play A Doll’s House. In this scene, Nora realizes that her entire life she has been objectified and played with much like a doll. Ultimately, the house in which she lives in cages her from self exploration while the door serves as her gateway to freedom. The tall, light purple, large triangle represents Nora, while the rounded, dark purple rectangle represents Torvald. Although the color purple represents both characters, they are different. Nora’s lighter color shows how from a distance she her appearance seems similar to Torvald. In comparison, Nora is much larger than Torvald. Her massive size demonstrates her strength and power over Torvald. She is no longer allowing Torvald to dictated her every breath but instead is claiming ownership of her life. However, Torvald rounded edges shows how he is more satisfied with his way of life and opposes change. In the image, the door the background is black. Torvald sits on a red chair. The chair represents the throne of arrogance in which her sits upon. He think he knows what is best for Nora when in reality his desires for her to stay are selfish. The dark room encloses Nora and her husband, Torvald. This black wall demonstrates that Nora is trapped. First her father and now her husband’s patriarchal beliefs puts Nora at a lower social class. Ultimately, Nora is enable to create a world for herself because she simply lives in someone else's. In contrast, the door is white. The door is the sole thing that separates Nora from the dark world in which she is living in and the freedom of exploration. Therefore, the white door represents her gateway to personal salvation.
