In A Doll’s House, a playwright written in the 19th century Norway, Ibsen exploits the audience and readers with several clues of a happy ending. But the outside door slam, as the curtain comes down, shakes the audience to another sharp turn of the ending, something which may be considered as gloomy. Nora made her final decision to leave her children and husband behind. This consequential decision was actually been made long time back, since Nora realized that Torvald would never be a man enough to take the blame for her when she is in deep trouble. In addition to that, Nora knew that she had been treated as a doll, starting with her father and ending with Helmer. To her, Nora had more sacred duties than merely taking care of her husband and children. Helmer made it clear to Nora that “no man would sacrifice his honor for the ones he love”, which proved that women back then had to deal with the fact that a man would never sell his pride for a woman’s sake. Nora ascertained that she had to live such in disgrace “a thing hundreds of thousands of women have done”. Nora truly loved Helmer and if it was not for love she would have never borrowed money from Krogstad, ever.
