Throughout the past centuries women have been fighting for their rights and liberation in society. “A Doll House” shows the impeccable theme of how women have had enough and optate to find them selves. The author of the play Ibsen gives the main character Nora a chance to consummate just that. A Doll’s House is a tragedy in which Nora leaves her house by walking out on her imprisoned lifestyle to the world of new possibilities. She is going off to know her own responsibilities towards herself. This kind of self-realization, which usually leads to a new beginning. Nora opens her eyes and observes that her individuality and freedom have been taken in living with Torvald Helmer. Women had one role in society and it was to satisfy their husbands and raise their children. The jobs women held were to cook, clean, sew, raise and take care of the children, and keep the house in order. They were treated as possessions rather than a human being that could act and cerebrate for them selves. Whether married or single all Victorian women were expected to be weak and helpless, a fragile delicate flower incapable of making decisions beyond selecting the menu and ensuring her many children were taught moral values.
