A&E Biography with Jack Perkins: Thomas Edison This video starts off describing the early beginnings of Thomas Edison’s childhood. According to the video, Edison was never the best in his education. He wasn’t dumb, but he could not fit well in school, ergo his mother, Nancy Edison’s decision to home school him. Edison was very active, from his job as a mail boy in his city. By the age of 12, Edison had published his first article in his local newspaper, The Weekly Herald. Unfortunately, By the age of 15, Thomas slowly began to develop a loss of hearing, this later became a bigger issue as he aged on. As a teenager, Edison owes his thanks to one Sir Mackenzie, due to Edison’s act of courage, rescuing his child from a foreseen accident.
