In Holly Jackson’s book, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, 5 years ago a popular girl named Andrea “Andie” Bell disappeared and her boyfriend Sal is accused of murdering her and hiding the body. Then after disposing of the body, Sal is said to have committed suicide. Everyone in the town of Little Kilton has a strong belief that Sal is guilty, except Pip. Pippa “Pip” Fitz-Amobi is a high school senior that starts a senior project. In this project, Pip attempts to prove Salil “Sal” Singh’s innocence alongside Sal’s younger brother Ravi Singh. Andie is trying to discover more about the Bell family to understand more about Andie. Pip contacts Becca’s old friend, Jess Walker, to get more information. Jess uncovers to Pip that Jason Bell (Andie’s dad) spoke to the Bell women weirdly. Jess mentions that Jason will take “...little digs about how they looked and stuff.”, and will emphasize his daughters’ insecurities and make light of them. Alongside messing with his daughter’s self-confidence, Jess uncovers that Jason makes the girls compete. Jason will praise one daughter for an accomplishment and “...use it to put the other one down.” (116). Jason impacted his daughters that affected them deeply, especially the younger daughter Becca. Pip uncovers from Jess that when Jess and Becca went to a calamity party and the next day Becca took a morning-after pill, insinuating that she had sex (117). In order to debunk her theory, Pip used the Ward family computer and save printed documents. She did this so that if another note was printed, it would be saved. After she uncovers that Becca is the person behind Andie’s death, Pip continues to uncover the truth about Sal. Pip goes back to the Ward house to confirm if her theory was correct but exposes that Elliot Ward was the person making the notes (263).
