When President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Sarge was very calm and kept the chaos under control. When the First Lady asked Sarge to plan the President’s funeral, he accepted and did not rest until he felt that the President had justice. Sarge thought through every aspect of the funeral to make sure it was right. Even when other people attempted to persuade him to go in a different direction, Sarge stuck to his gut and went with his first instincts. With every decision he made, Sarge put the President first. He also tried to be there for the First Lady, to comfort her, in her time of need. Sarge also assisted the new President, Lyndon B. Johnson, who stepped into office.
