An Analysis of “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” by Flannery O’Connor
Flannery O’Connor is the author of “A Good Man is Hard to Find’’. She was raised Catholic and grew up in Georgia. She based her fiction on the extraordinary moments of God’s grace. (Kinney Par. 1) O’Connor fell very ill with disseminated Lupus in 1951 and two years later, once she gained back partial health, she wrote “A Good Man is Hard to Find”.(Unger 3: 338) She claimed that the short story is the only piece of her work that she could read to an audience without bursting into laughter. (3: 339) Flannery O’Connor also mocked stereotypes of religion in most of her writing and once said that she comes up with her characters by separating and exaggerating parts of herself(3:48-49; 59) . “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” is a Southern Gothic short story written by Flannery O’Connor that starts off as a satire of a typical family vacation and becomes a twisted tale of cold-blooded murder.
