Soccer began in the colonies of America. Specifically in the Jamestown settlement. In the beginning soccer was mostly played by schoolboys and college teams, however it was known as upper-lass. It is commonly believed that the Oneida club in Boston in 1962 is the first club to have a regular schedule of players. Before 1862 soccer was a game with no clear or definite rules. It was only after the civil war, that soccer gained popularity but, mostly among students. And every school or college played by a different set of rules. For example some schools would played soccer with innings like in volleyball or baseball game. In the early 1950s, the US National team won the World Cup with an amazing win over England,which shocked the world, with a goal by Joe Gaetjens. However over the years the popularity of soccer began to quickly decline, and ended the United Soccer League in 1985. It was only the Western Soccer League, that still remained, and had just finished its first season ever, remained playing outdoor soccer fields, but only had four small barely surviving teams.
