In 1347, Europe was struck with an incredibly lethal disease that resulted in the death of one third of the population. The epidemic that killed 50 million innocent people was called the Bubonic plague. In “A Journal of The Plague Year,” Daniel Defoe took his audience on a journey of a man who lived during this unfortunate time. By using anecdotes to describe the main characters experience during the plague, the reader was able to develop a personal connection with the story, and fully emerge in what Defoe was saying.
