Even Angels Ask: A Journey to Islam in America By Jeffrey Lang I’ve never been to America, but the author Jeffrey Lang made me having a high curiosity in exploring the youngster of Muslim in America. For instance, on how do they live, how do they communicates with each other, how do they dressing either based on shariah Islam or not. The most importance question played around in my head is, are they really having a lifestyle as a true Muslim? First of all, the author emphasizes on the causes of the American’s youngster Muslim that didn’t inherit the Islamic lifestyles and teachings of Islam which is due to the parents and the ancestors are lacking of explorations about Islam. The youngsters are too westernized and even admit that they are atheist. Usually, at the age of 16, they tend to discover and revealed themselves as a non-muslim. The most questions asked is what deeds Islam requires of them? Prophet Muhammad S.A.W telling them that Islam is built upon five pillars of Islam; the Shahadah, Salah, Sawm, Zakah and Hajj. The five pillars of Islam touch many areas of a believer’s earthly existence. For instance, salah (ritual prayer), is a mandatory for Muslims to perform five times a day to keep the believer focused throughout the day on the real purpose. Zakah, an annual charity tax, this to ensure the believers aspire to purify the previous year’s worldly gains. To sum up, the five pillars of Islam are at the core of Muslim piety, as each worshipper brings into them all of our pains, efforts and longings.
