07/03/24 Dear Principal Carganilla, I am Julianne Peralta and I am part of the Class of 28’. I enrolled in Summer Bridge to get my half credit for PE earlier this year, and I just wanted to be out of my house while actively doing something. I am writing this letter to advocate for the sponsorship of the Summer Bridge program next year. Summer Bridge should continue because this program has taught me things I would usually deny, helped me improve my health mentally and physically, and connected me to my peers through the activities. Summer Bridge has taught me to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. I am not an athletic person or like working out. However, this program has pushed me to do these exercises and try new things. For example, while we were stretching, it felt very uncomfortable. I did not want to do the exercise because I felt embarrassed and lazy. For example, there are aerobic, anaerobic, stretching, and balance exercises. These are the most important types of exercises that will keep people active, mobile, and feeling great. These are also the exercises we have done in this program that I have not done enough of. The benefits of these exercises include endurance, burning body fat, and other benefits. So throughout, I have practiced these benefits to be able to run a major distance, do vigorous exercises, dance, and do other activities. For example, the lessons in mindfulness and yoga made me relax and be in the moment. I have been stressed out and have just been on my phone all day. So practicing these activities has made me less stressed and reduced my headaches. This has also helped me appreciate the moment, such as eating food and spending time with my family.
