A LONG WALK TO WATER
Individuals adapt in challenging environments by taking small steps to accomplish big tasks, learning new skills by themselves or by others , and appreciating good positive things in harsh situations. The author demonstrates this when they he/she shows the characters emotions and action that revolve around the idea of adaptation.
Many people such as Salva and Nya accomplished many things by using resources around their current situation. The novel “A Long Walk to Water” and article “Time Trip: Sudan’s Civil War” shows how when people are put in harsh circumstances any available resources are frugally used. In page. 27 “The water was filthy” Nya’s family drinks dirty, contaminating water because of the harsh conditions.

The most common way was by others. The resources achieved by people can then be turned into amazing tools with the correct skills. “A Long Walk to Water” and the article “Sudanese Tribes Confront Modern War” shows how individuals are often forced to adapt and learn new skills in order to survive in discordant situations like war. In page 57 “right there between the two biggest trees”. This quote shows how individuals like the men in Nya’s village have to make resources in harsh conditions. The New well is meant to give a bountiful amount of water to the thirsty villagers. The new skill learned in this specific scenario is the making of a well, something Nya has never seen before. A wonderful example of my thesis is in page 15 “ He knew the answer” Salva was a child and he had to adapt to hunger and faster walking.People often didn't want kids along because they thought kids took a longer time to adapt. Salva had learned how to keep up the pace when walking, and how to keep hunger under control without an bondanza amount of food. . In page 44. Villagers helped make boats from papyrus. Salva learned how to make boats which was an important skill and salva has also learned to row a boat. “Un-useful papyrus which was a resource around that time , then evolved into boats! Specific skills and resources had helped a majority of the people in harsh conditions, but mental things like positive attitude has also been proven to help
