In the book, " A Long Walk To Water" by Linda Sue Park, is a book about a little boy in Sothern Sudan who gets separated from his family due to war and must walk a great distance through tough terrain. He later grows up in the book and travels to America. The theme I am addressing is "Wars hurt the innocent." A quote that was found in the book was, "Where are we going? Where is my family? When will I see them again?” (11). This quote supports the theme, "War hurts the innocent” because Salva represents the innocent worrying about his family. This really shows the connection between wars and that they hurt the innocent because Salva doesn't know why the war came to him, making him an innocent kid. Even though this small quote is three words, this really sums up the main idea of "Wars hurt the innocent" well. I say this because the people of South Africa have never really felt "Away from home" like in the book they said and how they must leave their homes. I think people saying "Away from home" when their country is at war, really shows that wars hurt the innocent. The final quote I found is, "Into the bush. Do you hear me? Not home. Don't run home. They will be going into the villages, run into the bush" (10).
