The festival, recognized for its "womyn-born womyn" principle, became a space of contention where the meanings of womanhood and feminist camaraderie were discussed and reevaluated. This policy, as outlined by Ware (2002) and discussed by Gamson (1997), led to the creation of Camp Trans. This activist response advocated for the inclusion of trans women and challenged the festival's exclusionary stance.
