I started my research at Wal-Mart, I went to all departments and looked at one item in each department and I notice that in every packaging, the majority of products are made by other countries such as Germany, Mexico, France, United Kingdom and the most them were made in China, I would say close to 70% of the products were made by China. As a matter of fact, Wal-Mart is destroying United States manufacturing jobs. The majority of Wal-Mart products sold in the United States are manufactured abroad. This company searches around the world for the least expensive merchandises possible. This usually means buying stuff from places where they can pay people less. So, they can save lots of money. The trade off for cheap goods doesn’t worth the social costs because factories like sweatshop have poor working conditions, lower wages, child labor, and difficulty in gaining access to health care …show more content…

According to the Economic Policy Institute, “Walmart’s trade with China alone eliminated 133,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs between 2001 and 2006 and accounted for 11.2 percent of the nation’s total job loss due to trade. However, China is hardly the only source of Walmart goods: the company also imports from Bangladesh, Honduras, Cambodia, and a host of other countries” ("NOT Made"). This clearly shows Wal-Mart by purchasing Chinese made good destroy United States manufacturing jobs. Little by little jobs going overseas, but they didn’t go alone. When a factory closes, it is not just a factory worker who loses their jobs. Many people in the surrounding community loss their jobs as well. The people who supplies, parts and all materials, electricians or plumbers who help maintain the factory is also affected. Indirectly, the entire community suffers economic loss from hairstylist to insurance
