The twentieth and twenty first centuries have seen a growth in female representation in the workplace. While there is still a long way to go to achieve equality, women have been able to choose more freely to study fields and majors which have traditionally been dominated by men. This freedom allows me to pursue my passion of studying to become an Petroleum Engineer. I find it astonishing how the field of petroleum engineering sparked a race for exploration and development of oil and natural gas reserve across the globe. It has not only transformed entire countries but has changed the way we live. Hydro-carbons are present in so many products we use on a daily basis that a life without them seems impossible. Of course, there are negative effects of their use as well but those can be offset by using certain technologies and developing newer ones that can prevent the pollution caused by them. Texas A&M is the perfect school for me for a number of factors. The student to teacher ratio on the Qatar campus makes for an enriching and personal experience as I know that I can build a valuable relationship with my professor and in doing so, I can create a better understanding of the course materials that I will study. It will also allow me to engage with a diverse student body which consists of several nationalities. I believe that in a closely-connected world that we live in today, being able to engage with people from different back grounds is a valuable and enriching experience. Most of all however, I am confident that with an education from Texas A&M, I will be able to acquire the knowledge which can allow me to grow in a professional
