Rhetorical Analysis This paper highlights on the rhetorical analysis of the essay entitled A Modest Proposal, written by Jonathan Swift and found in the class language awareness text. Among other issues, the paper seeks to unravel the effectiveness of the persuasion method used on the targeted audience and the general reactions of the audience. To begin with, the essay elucidates the plight suffered Irish tenant families as a result of the several famines that had hot the area. In addition, the Modest Proposal reveals the inhuman nature of both the English gentry and who owned vast hectares and the English government of the day. His desire for a better world where each and every child was provided for and had an equal chance to survive regardless of his family background formed the basis of his motivation. Jonathan was greatly touched and affected by the sight of innocent mothers begging for money in order to provide the simple basic needs for their children. For that reason, the modest proposal provided for effective alternatives that the government would pursue successfully in order to ensure the survival and reduction of the high death rate of children among the poor people. In addition, I would say that the persuasion methods and tactics used by Jonathan swift in addressing the English government were effective to some extent. The proposals and goals highlighted in the easy and realizable and reachable both in the short term and in the long term. Equally, the methods proposed are found to be effectual, relatively cheaper, liberal and easy to implement as compared to the other available alternatives. However, the ideas and proposals of Jonathan Swift were not received well by the politicians and the leaders of the country. The politicians and the leaders were not impressed by the tainted image that the essay portrayed about their country to the outside
