Within both “A More Perfect Union” speech and The Souls of Black Folk, the focus is on America’s progress towards true equality between races. Both conclude that significant improvements have been made since our days of slavery, but there are still advancements to be made in society. While listening to Obama’s speech, I was only able to identify one moment in which he strongly demonstrated double consciousness.
