In “A&P” by John Updike, it is a story about how the author is working in a worn-down/retro style store and three girls, in their bathing suits, come in and walk around the store. As a result, the girls got in trouble for wearing their bathing suits and the author quit. I really like the story because at the end it leaves the reader wondering what is going to happen to the author. In addition, I really like the how the author characterized the three girls and himself. For example, the author describes the first girl as “she’s one of these cash-register-watchers, a witch about fifty with rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrows,” (Updike 1). The description showed that the first girl likes to see people make mistakes and point out about it. The
