“A&P” is a short story by the author john Updike. In this story Sammy, a 19 year old grocery store cashier is working one day when three girls walk in bathing suits and it catches his attention. Sammy watches them walk through the store as they go in and out of isles and is more and more interested in the one he names Queenie. Once they are finished and are ready to pay the Store manager comes out and scolds that they should never walk into their establishment wearing Swimsuits. The start to leave but Sammy is not having it so he quits trying to get Queenies attention because he grew a liking to her but it backfires and they just leave without even watching what is going down. Sammy changes his view on the girls rapidly throughout the story from making fun of them to liking them so much to quit his job for. The events in the story changed how Sammy felt about the girls and show how he is quick to change. The first point of Sammy’s interest is when the 3 girls first walk into the store.
