Writing #7 The story written by John Updike “A+P” is about a nineteen years old teenager Sammy who worked in the grocery store. Sammy is a typical teenager who cares only about himself and does not consider future consequences. In addition, Sammy is a very attentive teenager who accurately observes people behavior. Sammy is an average teenager, who is working in the grocery store to make some extra money. During his working days, Sammy notices everything what is going on in the store. Like the big part of the male teenagers, Sammy has a healthy interest in the females. Thus, it was obvious that he will definitely notice those three girls appearance in the bathing suits. At some points, Sammy got so excited that he was describing every single detail of their bras, underwear and even the posture of their body, like neck, shoulders, etc. For example, when the girls came to his cash desk to check out, Sammy said, “With a prim look she lifts a folded dollar bill out of the hollow at the center of her nubbled …show more content…

Sammy was trying to put himself upon everyone else at the moment when he was trying to impress the girls, so they could notice him and show him some attention. Nevertheless, he understood that they looked at him in the same way they were looking at other cashiers and he had to do something special. Sammy, to proof to those girls that he is different from his coworkers, decides to go for a very risky move and quit the job in front of the customers and his manager. When he says “I quit”, he had hope that this risky move would grab girls’ attention and they will turn around and consider him as their hero. However, the girls did not even move their heads to see what is going on.
