it seems there are less hours in a day as life goes on but more to-do on the list than what is scratched out. In Heschel’s "A Palace In Time", obeying the Lord’s commandment to rest on the Sabbath is imperative for a good life. In a manner of speaking, our bodies are much like machines in the way that they fulfill our orders; we can compel our mind to fight off the sleepiness, to solve mental math, and to obey our commands to move our fingers across a keyboard. Similarly to machines, use does cause wear and tear but one of the biggest difference is that humans require internal rest which is why keeping the Sabbath holy contributes to the good life, “But an opportunity to mend our tattered lives; to collect rather than to dissipate time.” This is a time to catch up with friends and resolve our inner problems. Also, in a secular sense, keeping the Sabbath as a day of rest is not to endorse laziness but rather charges up one’s energy for another productive week, “ . . …show more content…

Without of a day of rest, it is as if a person is pulling an all-nighter throughout the week. `Another way to look at the concept is in a spiritual sense as we can use this time to take care of spiritual matters. After all, we are not only flesh and bones but also soul and often times forget to nourish that aspect of ourselves since its not visible but weighs equally as any other physical ailment. It can be used as a time to make ourselves right with God as well as take a calm breathe away from the week’s stress. However a person wishes to interpret the Sabbath, a day of rest contributes to the good life because we will burn out our candles at both ends before we even take a moment to enjoy
