Reading Report I am going to to be writing my reading report on “The Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry. A Raisin in the Sun is about the Younger family; Lena, who was the momma of the family who previously lost her husband to death. Then there was Walter, the oldest child of Lena. Walter was a chauffer, who hated his job, so afterwards he would go to a bar and drink his pain away. Benetha, the younger child of Lena, was the brains of the family and had dreams of going the medical school. Ruth was the wife of Walter, and Travis was the son of Walter and Ruth. There was only one problem. The house was located in an all white neighborhood, and one of the residents of the neighborhood came to plead his case on how he didn’t want the Younger family to move into the neighborhood. He wanted to keep the neighborhood white, and because of this, he made an offer to the family to have them go back where they came from. Lena and the Younger family declined the first offer. Lena goes to tell the family that she did not use all the money on the house, and because she wants the family to be ran by a man, she gives the rest of the money to Walter with hopes of putting the money in an account to use between him and Benetha. Walter obviously doesn’t go by momma’s rule and instead, meets up with his friends to go and invest in a liquor store. As soon as the family found out about the decision Walter made, they were all infuriated, but Walter made a promise that the money would be made back from the investment. Because Walter made poor business decisions, he ends up losing all of the money. Disappointment wouldn’t be the word to describe how the Younger family felt after finally hearing the news after Walter kept it from them after many days. After Walter lost the money, he went back to the man who wanted the Younger family to move out and accepted the offer, to make some
