The incandescent light bulb is a reliable source of light that illuminated many people’s houses and it also inflated a portion of the economy in Britain, but on the contrary it started the deterioration of the environment. Before the 19th century lighting in houses and streets was fairly new. Few people had kerosene or candles to help light up their houses. When the 19th century came along new methods of lighting such as gas lighting, electric lighting and incandescent light bulbs also came along with it. These methods helped people as when gas lighting was first introduced it was almost 75% cheaper than normal candles or other old methods of lighting up houses. The method of making energy currently is mostly done by burning fossil fuels. According to the website economicshelp.org in the UK the most used source of energy in 1960’s was coal and oil which is shown in the graph. Nearly 95% of the energy used in the UK was made of coal and oil. This method of burning fossil fuels has many health hazards to our world. One of them is that when we burn fossil fuels gases such as carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide are released in to the air. According to BBC “Coal and oil release sulfur dioxide gas when they burn, which causes breathing problems for living creatures and contributes to acid rain.” “Fossil fuels release carbon dioxide when they burn, which adds to the greenhouse effect and increases global warming.” (1). The effects of this “extra” greenhouse effect and acid rain on our world has been very severe and it wont slow down unless we do something about it. They have caused millions of deaths in the world when people are exposed to this unusual heat or this acidic rain. Also 37% of the worlds energy comes from electricity. In this context energy can also be a synonym for global warming. Also this is not the only problem, in order to transport energy to homes most cities in the UK used wooden poles and wires. The light bulb overall has had a lot of effects on our current world. It is the reason that we are in this current era as it has helped power many new different types of technology which has helped our current day scientists to make them better and newer. It has also powered many humans lives today. In todays world a man without a light bulb is thought of as poor as they intergraded themselves in our daily lives. They have helped many of our economies grow in England and all over the world as well. They have helped increase the GDP per Capita which is good they have created many new industries that have employed people who bought stocks payed taxes which helped the country of Britain grow as a unity. But they have also had drawbacks like how they have effected our environment because they use energy from fossil fuels which pollutes our environment and creates global warming and other world problems. But on the other side it has helped humanity grow to understand these mistakes and then refine them so that these problems to ultimately help the world grow as one one for the better.
