Mormonism is a religion that was founded by Joseph Smith ( 1805- 1844 ), who is now regarded as a prophet by Mormons. Mormonism began in 1830, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. This religion started spreading after Joseph Smith published the Book of Mormon, the same year. The Book of Mormon is the Holy Book of the religion of Mormonism. It contains the collection of the writings of ancient prophets, who were commanded by God to lead groups of people and teach them the religion. These writings were about witnessing Jesus Christ being the son of god. They were believed to be written on the “Golden Plates” that were given to the founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith, by the angel Moroni, in 1827. Joseph Smith later translated these writings to English, because these gold plates were originally written in different languages.“I then showed him those which were not yet translated, and he said that they were Egyptian, Chaldaic, Assyriac, and Arabic”, stated Joseph Smith in the Book of Mormon.
