Terry Moorer Writing and Rhetoric 1 October 2014 The worldview that Americans have nowadays is strongly based on what we are wearing and what we buy. Some people will judge you like no other if you do not fit the standards that are suitable for them. Commercials also have a high influence on American culture. They persuade them to think that if they buy their product, then they will have the same effect or results as the characters in the commercial. That is the problem with society. We believe all of the lies that we are being fed, and we continually go down the path that these major companies want us to go down and that is buying their product. Companies can tell you anything to get you to buy their product. In my particular commercial, it is based on the body wash product axe. The use of dirty subtle humor to sell a product can really be affective, because it gets the viewers engaged and thinking. This commercial can cause people to wonder if they really use this product, will the things described in the commercial really work. This is where the creator of the commercial did a great job. They have men thinking that if they use the product it will make them more appealing, and it has women thinking that if the men use this then it will make them more enjoyable. The commercial convinces you to buy the product by focusing on pretty ladies washing dirty balls. There isn’t much emphasis put on the product itself, they convince the viewers with the ethos of the actors and the pathos of being able to relate. Narcissism is also being relied on, because men are being told that they need to have clean balls in order for pretty women to play with
