Because of these strong feelings, many writers have expressed their opinions on the issues as they break down the structure of the industry. Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan explores the complexities of the modern food industry and the choices that consumers are faced with. Pollan delves into the origins of the food produced, from industrial agriculture to organic farming, highlighting ethical, environmental, and health implications of dietary decisions. Sclosser and Pollan use chronological order to best explain the abundance of transient pieces in the system. The key factor to displaying this chronological order is to display the food that is most essential and prevalent in the American food system. The producers inform the audience about the importance of corn and how the crop is essentially the backbone of the industry. Next, the producers show the first instance of unethical practices in the industry, which is modifying the corn, creating unhealthy ingredients that are used in most items at the supermarket. This is an example of the producers branching off initial ideas to invoke information about dark outcomes and consequences. Another way that the author branches off of the previous point is by explaining how the cow’s diet, involving corn, contributes to the cow’s ability to contract E. coli, further leading to the spread of the bacteria in the food system. Displaying the chain reactions in chronological order was beneficial to the effectiveness of the writing because the viewers were able to receive a grasp on the large-scale effect that the food system
