As said at the beginning of The Tell Tale Heart, the narrator introduces his personal “chronicle” of the demise of the old man and his involvement with the murder. “TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses --not destroyed --not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily --how calmly I can tell you the whole story.” (Poe p.???) Her presumed morbid lust for the jaunty Homer Barron ends with his death and his presumed necrophilic abuse and disrespect. The fifth narrator, of the theorized set of five townspeople narrators, in a Rose for Emily, says “The man himself lay in the bed. For a long while we just stood there, looking down at the profound and fleshless grin. The body had apparently once lain in the attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of love, had cuckolded him.” And “Then we noticed that in the second pillow was the indentation of a head.” (Faulkner p.???) He explicitly says that he remembers the day he and others from the town opened up that room in Ms. Emily’s house, and found the man still in the spot he was possibly murdered and abused, and had been lying as long as he had been dead in the house. It is most likely the case that Homer Barron was murdered instead of dying by natural causes, and with Ms. Emily as the lustful murderer of her possible lover, she becomes an exemplary example of this literary madness and literal insanity just like the narrator in The Tell Tale
