In the novel Monument 14, written by Emily Laybourne, there are many recurring ideas. These topics include the coming of age, survival, and dependence on technology. For instance, when her friend Madison is caught plagiarizing, Ellie risks her own academic reputation to help her. Ellie is a dynamic character who undergoes an important inner change as she realizes that her obsession with grades and college admissions has been taking a toll on her mental health.
However, there differences are their community involvement, and even though they both avoid reality they do it differently. These two women both faced criticism from the people around them. Loneliness, rejection, and isolation are some of the experiences that each of these women had to face, however the way each one handled it was different. “A Rose for Emily’ starts off with Emily Grierson’s funeral.
Emily comes back from being supposedly dead. In previous episodes the dealt with an unsub, from Emily past. Emily did her best to not involve her team fearing what would happen to them, knowing that this person was extremely dangerous. In the end to protect the son of the unsub, she did tell her team, hoping they could help her. As the event came to an end, it leads to the “death” of Emily, or at least that’s what Hotch and JJ tell their team.

At her death, a gruesome sight is unfolded when her lover of over forty years ago is found decomposed in her upstairs room. William Faulkner effectively builds epic suspense in “A Rose for Emily” by the unchronological order of the story, the treatment of Emily’s father towards her, and her family’s history of mental illness.
