On April 7, 1943 in Helsinki, Finland, my grandmother Lilly Gunnel Elizabeth Wickstrom was born a very happy baby at the local hospital. It was WWII when she was born, and there had been a lot of bombings around their neighborhood. One night, they heard extremely loud explosions. They could hear as the bombs soared through the sky and crashed down destroying all of the surroundings. So, they went to hide in their bombproof basement. All night long they heard loud explosions. The next morning, they went up to their apartment. They had a very squished apartment on the fourth floor with a not so astonishing view of other dull apartment houses. She has also always loved taking handicraft classes in different things for example: to plate birch bark, or tend fish skin, glass fusing, spinning yarn (etc). When I asked her what her hopes for the future was she said “I hope that greediness and corruption will disappear” and “also spend time with my grandchildren obviously” I also asked her what she wanted to work as, as a kid. And she told me “While growing up, I always wanted to become a veterinarian” “Why is that?” I asked “So that I could buy all the bulls in Spain to prevent bullfighting, because it’s torture”. And I agreed. She met her husband Goran, when she studied to become a nurse. He comes from Sweden so she moved there when they married. The last 20 years before retiring she worked with spinal cord injury rehab. She also brought this concept to Botswana in Africa. This led to her traveling there 7 times. My grandma sure has had an exciting, eventful land great life. I love meeting her at our summer place in Korpo in Finland and watching her at this place where they make it feel like the olden days where she sits and spins yarn. She has a great personality and that's why I choose her for this
