Moving tribute to grandmothers
The story is about a guy who wanted to film his grandma cooking because he wanted to learn more about his heritage. I think Jonas wanted to film these conversation because then he could easily remember how the food is made, and take a look back at how the grandmother slowly remember different memories from when she was just a kid herself.
The reason why I find this so interesting is because first of all, this created a huge network where other people could share their own grandmother’s stories with connection to food, and second of all, the histories from a few decades ago are exciting. First of all it`s who you are. Your name is usually not something you change, and it follows you your whole life. A name is what separates you from everyone else, it`s something that gives you a special “tag”. To give you an example, what would celebrities do without their names? Would people just go around saying “It`s that girl who sings”. What celebrity could that be? There are so many others that could be doing the same thing. Your name makes you special and unique.
In the text Sunray said: “For us as a family, we wanted to reconnect our children to their tribal culture in a way of naming them because it`s powerful. Names are powerful. We thought long and hard about them”. This is a good example of how people think about names. As it says, names are powerful. In this situation, the names are connected to their tribal culture. The names remind them of who they are. It`s a part of their heritage. Their reminder of that they`re a part of something original, everyone is unique.
