Jeannette 's relationship with her siblings is a kind and close relationship. For example, when they lived in Phoenix she was always did everything with Brain. While with lori they were sort of distant from each other, but after Lori got her glasses they seemed to do a lot of things together. Also, when they were in Welch they played in the forest toghther and help when they needed it. This is seen when Lori starts to plan to go to new york, and they all start to save up so she can go.
Family is one of the themes displayed in this story. From the beginning of the novel, Vladek is seen enjoying his wife and the birth of his son. His wife, who is experiencing post-partum depression, takes a visit with Vladek to the sanitarium to help her recover. However, during the journey he tries to hide away the Nazi party from his wife to leave her with no worries by saying “The sanitarium was far away from everything-so peaceful, so quiet” (Spiegelman 36). Vladek is soon drafted to the Polish army.
The Book Thief Narrative Tension Markus Zusak uses all three forms of narrative tension in his story, The Book Thief, but it is clear that anticipation is the most used out of all of them. An early example of this is when Zusak uses anticipation at the beginning of the section, The Eclipse, to gain the reader's attention. Zusak foreshadows the future by using colors associated with certain events. Zusak starts The Eclipse by saying, “Next is the signature black, to show the poles of my versatility, if you like. It was the darkest moment before dawn.”

The Book Thief depicts the struggle of young German girl, Liesel Meminger, living in Germany during the time of Hitler’s reign.

Markus Zusak's The Book Thief explores the complexities of human nature through his use of setting, symbols and characters. Different characters possess different qualities based on their experiences. Symbols are used to illustrate both the beauty and the ugliness in humanity. Also, in the novel, the setting in which the character is raised has either a negative or positive effect on the characters actions.
Growing as a Character Every event in our lives happens for a reason, whether it is to learn from our mistakes or to gain experience from them. In Markus Zusak's novel “The Book Thief,” Liesel Meminger uses her experiences with living in the 1940s to learn life lessons and experience first hand the many terrible things Hitler is doing to people around her. She learns how to deal with the many obstacles that are thrown at her. Liesel grows as a character by following her step-father’s footsteps in being a kind and generous person, going through childhood with her best friend Rudy, and being aware of what is going on around her by learning from Max.
Kate uses many literary elements in the story the first element used would be foreshadowing. She used foreshadowing in the first sentence of the story saying “ Knowing that Mrs. Mallard was afflicted with a heart trouble, great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband 's death.” This line foreshadows the end of the story when she Mrs. Mallard dies because of her heart condition. The time in which we will decide what novel will be chosen for this year’s summer reading approaches; however, there is an important factor that must be kept in mind. Unlike in past years, this year’s summer reading will be read and discussed by both parents and their students. Presented is a list of four novels to choose from that include: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, Scythe by Neal Shusterman, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. While these books are all very well written, The Book Thief is clearly the best choice for both students and their parents.

Generally, when people imagine the average model family, they see a family that has money, a family that is prim and proper and usually, a family that is biologically related. Though, family in this book is based on shared hardships and having faith in each other, not by blood relation. Hans and Liesel’s relationship is a great example of trust.

She is taken to a new home where she developed friendships that helped her heal her wounds and survive World War II. Friendship is portrayed through her connections with Hans, Rudy, and Max and it is learned how essential these friendships are to her survival. At the beginning of the novel, she developed her first friendship with Hans.
One of the most important recurring themes throughout The Book Thief was Liesel’s relationships with all of the people in her life. She grows close with several different people, and trusts, loves, and cares for them all differently but equally. Three of those relationships will be explored more deeply; Liesel’s relationship with her foster father, Hans Hubermann, the Jewish man her family takes in, Max Vanderburg, and her best friend, Rudy Steiner. Liesel’s relationship with Hans is one of the most important, if not the most important, relationships in the novel. Hans is the first person Liesel trusts, and the person who stays with her and loves her until the end.
The characters in a story. They are hard to bring to life, yet a story would be incomplete without them. I love to write, and I often don’t have troubles creating my characters. But what makes every character stand out is that special thing about each and every one of them. That’s one thing that I loved about “The Book Thief,” by Markus Zusak.
Guilt: one of the strongest emotions, the cause of grief and sadness everywhere. In The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, characters such as Liesel Meminger, Hans Hubermann, and Michael Holtzapfel, are only a few who experience this intense emotion. Whether it stems from death, survival, or thievery, guilt finds it’s way into affecting each character’s lives, making it a main theme. The most popular type of guilt throughout the book is survivor’s guilt.
